Any time you try a new independent auto shop, there is always some trepanation and anxiety due to the stigma that they are likely to rip new or one time customers off. However, we have an old 1987 Chevy Suburban with a Big Block 454 engine and a transmission which was absolutely SLAMMING from 1st gear into 2nd. With that much torque involved, we were at risk of some very expensive damage if those clutch plates decided to come apart or shatter, and most shops don't have a transmission specialist who would likely be savvy on pre-OBD equipped transmission, especially at that size. So we rolled the dice and brought it in. Like the vast majority of Americans, my knowledge of automobile automatic transmissions is basic at best, albeit I have studied some of the internal components as needed throughout the last few decades. Suffice to say, I knew that there are dozens and dozens of different unrelated issues which could cause a host of problems, and the cost to address or repair these issues often has no basis in how expensive the issue feels. A 1st to 2nd gear shift that was as brutal as that Suburban was suffering from FELT like it would probably run a few thousand dollars. Automatic transmissions are some of the most ridiculously complicated and complex machines we mere mortals ever operate, with a reliability rate that is in many ways paradoxical to those complexities. I figured that something that jarring was likely being caused by one of the thousands of unique parts somewhere inside this labyrinth of spinning metal. An hour after we dropped off we got a call, they determine that it was all being caused by a vacuum leak, I assume one that the transmission depends on, which I had no clue it did. What was the damage going to be? A whopping $140.... 2 hours later we were driving it home and it was shifting like a brand new Audi Q7. We'll be back, and highly recommend. The guy at the counter was as friendly as they come, extremely patient with all the questions, and not a hint of patronizing which some shops just can't help. Oh, and did I mention they only charged me $140 for a repair that a less scrupulous operation could have very easily scammed me for thousands, and I probably still wouldn't realize it. Don't hesitate to go here, these guys are honest and skilled.

Maryland Transmissions were wonderful today. They helped me out in a time of need and my car feels like it is brand new!!! The gentleman who fixed my tire was very nice, very professional and only took 15 minutes! Thank you!

Team of mechanics you can trust to respect your car, your wallet, and yourself. Come from a family of home mechanics who bring our trucks and cars here for the jobs we don't want to do (transmissions) and those we can't (mounting tires). They have done other jobs outside transmissions and tires. We are always happy with the job done, the cost, and the overall customer service here.

I've had Dana and the guys at Maryland Auto Service work on several of our cars over the years. Tire changes, oil changes, brake work, battery, alternator, and other diagnosis and repair. Both foreign and domestic vehicles. They always do a great job at a fair price and quick turnaround.
