I have been to several auto shops in the area. I had to stop going there because of some dishonest business practices they were engaging in. But this place is honest and very open to the customers. Convenient scheduling system. They care about customers' time. Not crowded in the early morning. Detailed reports of the customer's car condition with pictures are available online. Highly recommend Craftsman Auto Care in Merrifield.

I would not return to Craftsman Auto in Merrifield based on my experience. I brought my vehicle in for a safety inspection and was quoted close to $4,000 for repairs. I decided to get additional opinions from other local shops before proceeding, which I believe is a reasonable step for a repair of that size. Two other shops nearby quoted under $2,000 for the necessary repairs, and neither recommended replacing a part Craftsman said was “near failure”, stating they were not required for inspection at this time and looked fine. When I asked about the pricing differences, I was told the parts were “premium factory” components, but the pricing still appeared substantially higher than what other reputable shops quoted for similar work. Additionally, upon further review of one specific part, I was able to find the same part online for four times less than what was quoted. I understand some of the cost goes into paying for shipping for the part and other associated costs, but certainly should not warrant the four times price difference. A “discount” was later offered, but the total remained much higher, still over $1,000 more, than competing estimates. The interaction also felt uncomfortable when I mentioned wanting to compare estimates before making a decision. I encourage others to get multiple quotes before approving major repairs so they can make an informed decision. This is good advice to follow regardless of which shop you go to. A good shop will respect and understand that decision, as their services and honesty should speak for itself. Here, it did not.

Craftsman Auto Care Merrifield is a top-rate auto service center with a highly-knowledgeable and courteous team. They help to identify what are "must do" repairs versus "nice to do/down the road" repairs. I appreciated that distinction they make with their customers. I was especially impressed with Steven, who directed my recent repair. Pete, the manager, also is very courteous. The auto center appears to value--and keep--their customer base.

In the last few months I have brought two vehicles here for various services. The shop is great. Their service is impeccable. They do great work. They start their work with an assessment of the vehicle that is comprehensive, well documented with photos, and thorough. Their communication is great, and their pricing is better than dealerships. On one service call, they recommended that I take the car to the dealership to first check to see if the work was under warranty. They didn’t have to do that, but wanted to make sure I didn’t spend money where I dents need to. Overall, they are highly recommended both for the quality of their work and for the excellent customer service.

Craftsman came highly recommend to me by a "car person". I brought my car in for a failing starter, which they were able to resolve for a fair price. While the car was in the shop, the technicians also completed a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle. Brennan did a great job of walking me through all the items identified in the inspections report including listing them out in order of priority. I had a great first experience with Craftsman and plan on returning.
